after a gap of 5 hours my phone was showing screen lock asking to enter pin number. I have entered the pin and it returns back a message stating try again after 1 minute and i did so. this time it asks to try after 2 minutes .. and then suddenly some 6000 minutes and again 191508 minutes.. what went wrong and how to get it solved. every the date on the screen is four days old (28 sep ).even a change of sim card is of no use.

In short, you have a PIN code that you set for a password. Evidently you do not know the password, which is a shame. Like all good security systems where you do not know a password, repeated attempts come at a cost, which is why it makes you wait longer and longer.

This has nothing to do with a SIM card.

    Only option: Factory reset.

Where did you buy your device?

Have you tried a different SIM card?
    Is your device faulty?

    There are multiple issues here.
    1. Is this device locked to a mobile phone carrier? If it is and you are putting in a SIM card from a different carrier, you need to original carrier to unlock the device for you before it will accept your SIM card.
    2. If the unlock code is a password/pin required to access the device, then did you forget your pin or did you get this device from someone who did not reset it and gave it to you? For this issue you can use Nokia Software Tool for Retail and reset the phone to factory settings and you will lose all data that you have on the phone.

    Good luck.
